Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
